Role Purpose
As an Assistant Planning Manager, you will be a key part of the Land & Planning Team, assisting in the management of the company’s land portfolio. Your primary focus will be on supporting the identification, evaluation, and securing of sites for residential development. You will help devise and implement effective planning strategies to unlock potential and add value. Reporting to the Planning Manager, your role will be essential in supporting the successful delivery of planning applications and the promotion of the forward land bank.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct planning appraisals of potential development sites, assisting in recommending strategies for achieving planning permission.
• Work with Land and Technical colleagues to support the project management of the planning process.
• Assist in managing the forward land bank, ensuring effective promotion through the planning system.
• Help oversee budgets, cashflows, land schedules, and options schedules, providing regular updates to the team.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures for land acquisition and liaise with solicitors and internal departments.
• Maintain an efficient database to support current and forward land policies.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with local authorities, agents, landowners, and consultants.
• Help prepare papers for board packs and update the Executive Board on potential acquisitions.
• Support the team by advising on planning matters and informing of relevant policy changes.
• Attend management and planning meetings, keeping the team informed of progress.
Requirements
• Basic planning technical knowledge – working towards MRTPI status is an advantage.
• Minimum of two years’ experience with a residential developer or multi-disciplinary consultancy.
• Growing contact base with Local Authorities, agents, landowners, and consultants.
• Proficient in Excel for budget and cashflow support.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work to deadlines and on own initiative.
• Analytical skills to support team members and review planning submissions.
• Clean UK driving licence.
